Job opportunities - Trainee programme
EMEA Recruitment policy for trainees
The European Medicines Agency has an in-service training programme. The programme gives trainees an understanding of the Agency and its role within the activities of the European Union, enables them to acquire practical knowledge in one of the EMEA's Units and to obtain professional experience in the course of their work. The traineeships are organised once a year, each for a period of six months and at most nine months, beginning in October. The programme is addressed mainly to young university graduates, without excluding those who - in the framework of lifelong learning - have recently obtained a university diploma and are at the beginning of a new professional career. Interested candidates should download the application form and use the "submit by email" function at the top of the form. Applications can also be sent by normal mail or fax. If an application is unsuccessful a candidate may reapply for a subsequent raining period. It is however necessary to re-submit a full application afresh.
The EMEA receives approximately 400 traineeship applications per year of which around 40 candidates are offered a placement. Due to the large volume of applications EMEA is not in a position to reply to unsuccessful candidates. Candidates who are not contacted within the telephone contact period can assume they have not been chosen. Successful candidates will typically have a background relating to the activities of the EMEA, i.e. pharmacy, medicine, life sciences, healthcare, chemistry or information technologies. Recently qualified lawyers with an interest in pharmaceutical regulatory affairs and recently qualified candidates with an interest in human resources / budget / accounts are welcomed as well. Any candidate with the minimum requirements may apply.
Trainees are selected from nationals of the Member States of the European Economic Area (the Member States of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) and of candidate countries benefiting from a pre-accession strategy. Only a very limited number of nationals of non-Member States can be accepted. Trainees are responsible for making sure that they obtain the correct visa, where applicable, to enter the United Kingdom.
Minimum Requirements:
- Possession of a university degree or equivalent at the time of applying;
- A good command of English and one or more other official Community languages.
Timing:
The timing is approximately as follows:
| Procedures | October in-take |
| Deadline for receipt of application forms | 15 June |
| Sending of acknowledgement of receipt | normally 2 weeks |
| Telephone contact with candidates | July-September |

Training grant:
The Agency pays a maintenance grant of £1250 net per month and pays a travel allowance to compensate the expenses incurred at the beginning and at the end of the in-service training from the place of residence, which is normally the address provided in correspondence.
